Huge boost to BCC ahead of the season as Will Young is confirmed to return for his second stint at the club.

Bristol are excited to announce the re signing of NZ A and central districts captain Will Young for the upcoming 2018 season. Will is returning after his extremely successful 2015 year at the club and after a fantastic few years playing in New Zealand.

For the second winter in a row Bristol had a player on the England under 19 programme, this year Finn Trenouth was in South Africa before Christmas and in New Zealand after, playing In the world cup. This follows on from Louie Shaw who took part in last years England under 19 trip to India. Finn has now earned a professional contract at Somerset and hopefully Louie won’t be far behind. Add to the list James Bracey who made a fantastic start to his Gloucestershire career last year scoring 370 runs in 4 county championship games with a high score of 156 And will Tavare who is another homegrown player, Bristol are continuing to produce quality young cricketers.

Captain Will Rudge said ‘Its fantastic for Finn what he’s done this winter, with Louie last year and Brace’s fantastic breakthrough at the end of last season plus Will Tavare who continues to do well at Gloucester, it shows that what we’re doing at Bristol cc is working. We’ve invested in the youth, and it’s clearly paying off. We have more coming through as well. Matt Brewer has just returned from Sri Lanka with Gloucestershire under 17’s and has already made his debut in our 1st team. We see our job to give young guys the best helping hand to play professional cricket. Having these guys make it in the game and come through the ranks at Bristol means more to me than winning trophies. ‘

Chris’s Mills the bcc chairman added ‘ this year is shaping up nicely, to potentially have a top 5 of Bracey, Trenouth, Young, Tavare and Shaw would be fantastic to watch. All Bristol cc men as well.’ Add to that having Andy Stovold the former Gloucestershire player and first team coach as our head of cricket, Will Rudge a home grown player who played for Gloucestershire captaining the 1st team, these are exciting times. ‘

The WEPL season starts on the 5th may with Bristol 1st team away at Potterne and the 2’s home to ........

Please come and support the club this summer in what looks like a great year ahead.
